Comparison
Brandyland vs WordPress multisite for franchise networks
WordPress multisite runs many sites from one install, which is why it comes up in almost every franchise website conversation. It is a sound foundation. The real decision is what you build on it, and who keeps it running.

The short answer
Multisite is a toolkit. Brandyland is the finished tool.
A multisite install gives you one place to host every location, shared themes and plugins, and full control of the code. It is a strong choice for a team with WordPress skills in house. Without that team, corporate or an agency ends up assembling the franchise pieces from plugins and custom code: locked sections, a phone-friendly editor, holiday nudges, inquiry replies, a network dashboard. Brandyland comes with those as one product, priced per location.
| WordPress multisite | Brandyland | |
|---|---|---|
| Software | Free and open source | A subscription per location |
| How it's paid for | Hosting, plugins and the people who run it | $99 or $199 per location per month |
| Code ownership | Yours | Ours. Your content and images export any time |
| Brand locking | Built with plugins or custom code | Theme, fonts, colors and shared sections locked by corporate |
| Franchisee editing | The WordPress dashboard | A phone-first admin for hours, schedule, notices and pages |
| Inquiries | A forms plugin, set up by your team | On-brand reply within sixty seconds, follow-ups, a leads inbox per location |
| Network view | Built or added | Network health dashboard, worst first |
| Updates and security | Your team or your agency | Handled by Brandyland |
| Flexibility | Nearly unlimited | Your theme on a shared set of sections |
What multisite gives you
One WordPress install, many sites. A network admin controls which themes and plugins exist, and each location gets its own site with its own editors. The software is free and open source, the hosting is yours to choose, and WordPress skills are easy to find.
Those are real advantages. You own the stack end to end, and you can build nearly anything on it.
What you still have to build
Multisite handles running many sites. The franchise-specific work sits on top, as plugins, custom fields or custom code. Every item below can be done in WordPress. Each one is a decision, a build and something to maintain.
- Locking the brand's fonts, colors and shared sections so locations cannot change them
- An editor simple enough for a franchisee to use on a phone in a parking lot
- A weekly schedule of named sessions, and today's hours kept apart from regular hours
- Holiday hours, with a nudge ahead of each holiday
- A notice bar that comes down on its own after an end date
- Inquiry forms with an on-brand reply within sixty seconds, and follow-ups that stop when a person answers
- Pushing one page to every site, with some sections locked
- A dashboard that ranks locations by stale hours and leads waiting
Upkeep is a job
A WordPress network needs core updates, plugin updates, security patches, backups, and someone to check that an update did not break a location's page. On multisite, one plugin update reaches every location at once. That is efficient when it goes well and wide-reaching when it does not.
That work is normal and manageable with the right people. Budget for it as ongoing, whether it sits with a staff role or an agency retainer. With Brandyland, the engine is maintained for you, and your team works on content instead of plugins.
The franchisee's side
The WordPress dashboard is built for people who publish websites. A franchisee changing Saturday's hours, often from a phone, needs a much smaller screen: the hours, the week, a notice, a photo.
Brandyland's admin is built for that job. Franchisees edit hours, today's hours, holidays, the weekly schedule, events, the notice bar, photos and their own pages from a phone. A "still right" tap confirms regular hours are current, and corporate's locked sections stay locked.
Cost and ownership
Multisite has no license fee. The costs are hosting, any premium plugins, and the people who build and maintain the network, on salary or on contract.
Brandyland is $99 per location per month for Local, or $199 for Insights, which adds call tracking, attribution, benchmarking and layout tests. For franchise networks, the build and migration of existing sites, WordPress sites included, are free. The first term is 12 months, then month to month.
On code, WordPress wins: it is yours. With Brandyland, you own the content, and every site's content and images export with one click, any time, with no exit fee.
Choose WordPress multisite if
- You have WordPress developers in house, or a long-term agency that knows your network
- You want to own and host every line of code
- You need custom features specific to your business, built into the sites themselves
- You are ready to budget for updates, security and testing as ongoing work
Choose Brandyland if
- You would rather not run a WordPress team to keep location sites current
- Franchisees need a phone-first editor, not the full WordPress dashboard
- You want inquiry replies, follow-ups and a network health dashboard without building them
- You want a published price per location and a free migration
Questions
Questions people ask
Is WordPress multisite good for franchises?
It can be, with a team that knows WordPress well. It gives you one install for every location and full control of the code. The franchise features, such as locked brand sections, phone-first editing and inquiry follow-ups, are yours to build and maintain on top.
Can we move our WordPress multisite network to Brandyland?
Yes. For franchise networks, the build and migration of existing sites are free. There is a $299 one-time launch fee per location, waived for pilot networks.
Can corporate still control what locations change?
Yes. Corporate sets the theme, fonts and colors and can lock them, along with any shared section. Shared pages publish to every location at once, with sections locked or left open.
Will we still have a blog?
Yes. Brandyland includes a blog, along with an approved photo and video library that corporate curates.
What happens to our booking plugin?
Bookings stay on each location's existing booking system, such as Roller, Zenoti or Gingr. Brandyland links to it, or shows it on a Book page where the system allows. It never rebuilds booking.
